Tito “Indio” Ortega has never lived on a reservation. Growing up as a mixed-blood Hispanic/Native American, his experience has been that of an “Urban Indian,” his reservations being the streets of Hartford, Connecticut, and Boston, Massachusetts, among other cities.
He has been a drunk, a thief, a junkie, a mugger, a bouncer, a janitor, a boxer, an actor, a writer, a lecturer and a member of a traditional Indian medicine society. He is still a member of Medicine Lodge and also works with a Native American Inter-tribal council. He is currently working on his second book.
