My name is Gonzalo Cuevas. I was born in Cuba in 1967. I traveled to the US in 1980 during the Mariel Exodus at the age of twelve. I had a normal life until in 2004 when I was diagnosed with cancer. I have been battling the disease for four years. I have undergone two surgeries. During this period I was very depressed and it guided me to write. Some poems are very sad, but it is a true reflection of my heart and soul at that time. I hope that my poems inspire others to fight and face life, dealing with the pain.
