This novel is a straightforward, no-nonsense recollection of the events that have shaped me. My story is exclusively mine, but there are common threads that would be part of any American. Being born poor, black, and to uneducated parents would not control my destiny. It may have shaped who I am, but ultimately I decided my fate in life. With an unconquerable faith in God, a passion to address any injustice, I have evolved. A little boy that picked cotton in the rural cotton fields of South Carolina, home of Senator Strom Thurmond, would someday pick jurors to serve on his court cases.
