Ramona is a short story about a middle-aged Puerto Rican woman who suffered several setbacks in her life. First, the accidental killing of her husband in Puerto Rico. Being a widow with two children made it impossible for her to maintain the property that her husband had left for her with a heavy debt. Second, selling her property at a loss. She sacrificed and moved to America to live with her sister. Ramona was happy, until her sister’s husband’s flirtations made it impossible for her to remain in the house. Perturbed and bemused, she moved into the Baltimore city projects, where she encountered bigotry, jealousy, and dishonesty.
