Torn between two worlds. That’s how Briela views herself. She tries desperately to fit in, but Brooklyn is not ready for her. If they had just stayed in Puerto Rico, her life would have been so simple. She wouldn’t have to explain her accent, and most importantly, she wouldn’t have to learn another language. But her father insisted that opportunities in Brooklyn were abundant and jobs were easy to come by. After all, that is what those businessmen said when they offered to buy his land. So her father had packed their belongings and moved his family from their beloved homeland to an unfamiliar country. And so begins Briela’s journey.
