Oddly enough, these space travelers were confronted by pirates and the mogul watched his companions get captured and carried off. Eventually, Bassett was imprisoned and released, tried to enter a new society and again encountered Lady Circe, who routinely changed her name to Iana, as if she had possessed a second personality. In this new world, the financier saw first hand the warring factions in the streets and the political unrest that besot this strange planet. The mogul tried to educate himself about this society and soon found out that 20th century man did land on Alpha Centuria, perverted it, and earth was faced with the possibility of being not only under alien control, but with the prospect of experiencing a possible, intergalactic invasion.
