Diplomatic Weekends in Africa is a travelogue comprised of six stories, containing factual depictions of trips the author experienced in Sub-Saharan Africa, while working for the U.S. Government. Vivid depictions of the countries visited are told through the eyes of a young, idealistic diplomat, eager to discover the wonders of the region. The tales include monstrous pool crabs, a world-renowned explorer, suspended rope bridges, pink lakes, Tuarge traders, and little girls serenading that “a white man had come to paradise.” The six tales transport the reader to the little-known island nation of Sao Tome and Principe, “Two Days on Sao Tome”, the pristine rain forest of the Congo Basin, “A Walk in the Woods in Gabon”, the dusty roadways of Timbuktu, “A White Man Comes to Paradise”, Gor?e Island off of the coast of Senegal, “An Island for Slaves and a Pink Lake”, the former Gold Coast of Ghana, “Spicy Shrimps Soup at La Palm Royal”, and to a magical ascent above Cameroon, “A Day on Mount Cameroon”.
