Product Description
A young woman is abducted at midday during a busy workday in downtown Washington, D.C. I was that crime victim on that dreadful day, July 11, 1971. Following the assault, the U.S. government imprisoned me at the National Institutes of Health for four months as a subject in a schizophrenic research study. In Pilgrim Looking Through a Glass Darkly, I relive my experience on 4 East, describing how acute stress disorder—a normal response to trauma—was misdiagnosed as schizophrenia by government psychiatrists who knew little then how trauma can permanently affect the brain chemistry. After 15 years of psychotherapy, following sustained psychiatric abuse, I was able to face down my fears and recover my repressed memories. As a vital part of my recovery, I have written Pilgrim Looking Through a Glass Darkly for the victims of post-traumatic stress disorder. With friends and the Lord, Our Greatest Friend, we can walk down the road to recovering.
