Product Description
The book deals with several generations of the de Groot and van Goens families. The Book starts with the so called ?founder father’ of South Africa, Jan van Riebeek. To the delight of the author, one of her husband’s relatives was a direct descendent of Jan van Riebeek and so she was able to trace the family back to Jan van Riebeek and Governor General van Goens of Indonesia. The Cape had been founded as a trading station to feed the sailors on route to the spice islands in Indonesia. The Dutch colonized both, but it was Indonesia that provided the wealth. The famous VOC Trading company ruled both colonies and provided for the governors and men who administered the colonies.
