Stanley Zbiknowski, an accountant in Toledo, Ohio, isn’t going anywhere. Socially and professionally, his life is a mess. His boss wants the use of Stanley’s apartment once a week to meet a lady friend, and threatens to make things difficult if he doesn’t agree. Meanwhile, Stanley worries about his mother, who lives in a changing neighborhood with his younger brother. Stanley also has trouble with another brother, an alcoholic who has been leaching money from their mother. Add to that the fact his ex-lady friend wants to get back with him, while his neighbor, a young wench of nineteen, enjoys teasing him. Stanley’s got all the trouble he can handle! His loneliness eats away at him. He really doesn’t care until he meets Lorraine Cann, a witty and gifted schoolteacher who tries to change his destiny. Stanley starts to fight back, with Lorraine’s support. Will he find a peace at last?
