In the shredded land that once was the United States, King runs away from a cold, dark city and uncovers a secret that was fated for her to find. She then struggles on a deserted path and into a newly formed society which is headed by Mother Matriarch in the forest country. Once adopted, King learns warrior skills from her brother Zi-Yen and her mentor Nami, who some people think is a voodoo witch. Nami explains, “Don’t you dare think of taking. Law around here is that if you take without asking, then something will be taken from you. There’s more to this world than you think…” Nami helps King to understand the great forces rising up through the land, native forces rising to aid King and her warriors so that they can defeat the ego-twisted madman who tries to tear their family apart. “I do no not serve man’s justice,” says King. “I serve justice to men.”
