Frank Matiousky should have been dead—a cop on a stakeout in a dark alley on the south side of Chicago, he is shot at close range during a robbery attempt. Recuperating from near-death, he sets off with his mother to visit his relatives in Poland. It’s August, 1939. The war separates the pair, and both of their families struggle to survive. Frank and Rachal are reunited in Warsaw. There, they witness the cruelties of occupation. Friends, family, priests, and nuns are murdered by traitorous villains who use the Cathedral Underground to escape justice…but an avenging angel of God has other plans.
