Sisters, Marion and Shirley, are reunited on a TV programme after 40 years of separation. So much has happened to them since they were adopted as toddlers by different families. They grow up in the northeast of Scotland but have very different experiences. They are delighted to meet each other and share their past, introduce their families and begin their journey of discovery. Their families, however, do not all share in their delight of having a new set of relatives thrust into their lives.

Blood ties prove to be strong no matter how long the separation. The sisters and their families struggle to deal with their everyday lives as well as coping with events, which come to haunt them from the past.

Each has their own story of survival; each had been affected by the early traumatic experiences. This is a story of courage, mixed with laughter and tears.
