In 1965 Paradise, most people thought of their peninsula as a true paradise. Melody felt trapped, though. She was a talented musician who wanted to pursue a career but there was no high school for her to attend. She found out she was pregnant by a deceiving young man. Feeling unworthy to live in Paradise, she ran away from home. Once in Springfield, her son, Nathan, was born. Melody was forced into prostitution, but was rescued by a young preacher named Louie and his deacon, Albert. She began school, preparing to become a music teacher, and was reunited with her family and friends in Paradise. When Melody was nineteen she fell in love with and married Louie. He and Nathan helped her fulfill another dream.
