The Brightest Day opens when the High Energy Laser Applications Agency is established to develop a fast and non-polluting technique for oil exploration. Work concentrates on developing a powerful particle beam. The particle beam system is placed on a platform in space orbit. Added security protects the site, known as ALBERT, from nations bent on destroying the weapon system. Two local computers and one super-computer, AGNES, control the system. But then, the super-computer begins to take on human reasoning powers, as a huge asteroid enters our solar system and must be destroyed….
