Anna Banana tells the story of my life in the city, from birth, through high school, to marriage. My family’s hardships and struggles did not stop us from having fun and sharing it with our neighbors. I tell of my speech impediment for 45 years, and how I was able to sing in front of hundreds of people in spite of it, and how it did not affect my schoolwork. I tell of the day God miraculously healed me of this terrible handicap. My mother’s death and home invasion will tug at your heart strings, along with the chapter on my 19-year-old nephew’s tragic death in Vietnam. My divorce and my children’s antics after the divorce demonstrate how hard it is for a single mother to cope with a home and children when alone. The story of the school psychologist coming to visit is quite amusing. My role as caregiver for my aged father goes from funny to heart wrenching when he cannot return to my home after a hospital stay. Going to a fortune teller and learning about Mr. March brings some hope into my life, only to evaporate rapidly as the search goes on and on and on. And finally, my life in the golden years are truly golden, as God has blessed me with so much. He has given me 12 wonderful grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild, who bring me so much joy. As in Proverbs 31 verse 38, her children rise up and call her blessed.
