Jemima “Jo” Oaks is a precocious young lady determined to do things her own way. This doesn’t go over well in the small town of Dersy, where women are expected to conform to the rules of society. Raised by her widowed mother, Jo has her hands full trying to outdo the boys, planning revenge, scaring away ornery schoolmarms and chasing away unwanted suitors for her mother. She has plenty of friends to assist her in her mischief making, including her best friend, Giles Orson. Life couldn’t be better, until Jo realizes her friends are growing up and heading in different directions. When Giles begins courting one of their good friends and Jo meets her own match, change is inevitable.
