A valuable Renaissance art collection (The Riccardi Collection), thought to have been destroyed in the last war, is discovered when severe flooding necessitates repairs in the basement of the famous Ducal Palace in Venice. Tam Conner and his colleague, Harry White, are sent on assignment to the press conference where the paintings are to be unveiled. At the conference, the director unveils the first painting and is electrocuted…later Harry White mysteriously disappears. Conner returns to Venice to find out what happened to his colleague. Immediately, attempts are made on his life amidst the dark canals of that mysterious city. Assigned by his agency in London to photograph the collection for publicity purposes, Conner’s meticulous investigation of Harry’s last days in Venice is helped by tracking down his missing colleague’s beautiful assistant, Lisa. Conner and Lisa discover that there is in existence two sets of the Riccardi Collection, and while Conner photographs the forged collection, he wonders if Harry has original set.
