Dirk was close to being expelled at school for causing trouble. Assuming he was forgotten at Christmas by his mother, he left home. No one would look for him at school. He found discarded food in the dumpsters at the end of the school day and washed in the locker room at night. He thought he had it all. But soon boredom and loneliness set in. He teased and stole from a classmate he admired but kept to himself. With summer nearing he realized his days at school were limited. Leaving, he begged for money and food and while crossing a street at night was hit by a truck. Neither knew it was mother and son. His mother’s concern for a helpless boy led her to him. Finding him in a ditch, mother and son were reunited. It became a happy ending.
