Gaius Demetrius was born in Saughall Massie on February 17, 1985, within sight of the wild hills and mysterious mountains of Northern Wales. With the hills standing so proudly in his view every day, Demetrius became fascinated by the history of this strong and rugged land and eventually discovered the stories of Wales’ greatest hero, Llewelyn the Great, a prince from those rugged mountains of Northern Wales.

Using Llewelyn’s eventful life, filled both with violent warfare and violently dangerous passions, Gaius Demetrius presents his debut novel, Ascent of an Eagle. It is an account of the struggle Llewelyn faced to keep the kingdoms of Wales free from the Norman invaders in the late twelfth and early thirteenth centuries. It is not just a military struggle but is also a struggle which encompasses a wide range of human emotions, from love, to jealousy, to hatred.
