Product Description
At Carroll Academy, a day treatment program for at-risk youth in rural west Tennessee, every day is proactive thinking and elbow grease. During its first week of operation, it was noticed that Carroll Academy had no sign. There was a metal unit near the street that once housed a sign for the hospital that used to be there, but it had been vandalized so all that remained was the metal shell. During that week, the shell was filled with a hand-painted sign on plywood. It was professionally done by Carroll Academy art staff. It was a solid start, but was also a symbol of the way Carroll Academy operated from day one: by creating something out of nothing. In Lisa Norris’ first book, A Sign of Hope: The Carroll Academy Story, she illustrates the triumphs and struggles of building a day treatment program that is now the model for the state of Tennessee.
