The book is about my experiences as a Substitute Teacher hailing from a foreign country in Africa, with a different racial and cultural background, where the culture of the school system didn't tolerate children being disrespectful to Teachers and administrators. A violation of those principles often meted a free reign of discipline by the Teacher that may include the mistreatment and abuse of the children without accountability or chastisement. My draconian and heavy handed schooling experience was countered by the highly opinionated, free-speaking, confident and sometimes arrogant children in American elementary and high schools that I came across. Most of those challenges were simply a result of my background as an African with foreign looks and a foreign accent. Their misbehavior to me as a Substitute made believe that they thought a Substitute Teacher Day is actually a free day for them.
