James Tanner is a race car driver. Russell Sparks is a crew chief. Together these two men build a race team to compete in NASCAR's top division. This is a story of this team's adventures on and off the track, starting with their rookie season, covering the short off season, and continuing on throughout the second year as they struggle to make sense of luck and life. Tanner lives in an old farmhouse just outside of Fort Worth, Texas, on the Trinity River with his girlfriend Hannah, where he competed on the local short tracks. Suddenly thrust under the big-time spotlight, Tanner continues to do the only thing he knows: race.
