This is a book for anyone wanting to free themselves of the feelings of self-doubt, low self-esteem, and personal failure or shame that comes from surviving an abusive environment or relationship. Being the oldest of five children, I was the first to “escape” from the situation that my brother so accurately describes. In doing so I extricated myself from what is now widely understood to be a dysfunctional family and an abusive environment, and out from under the constant control of what the (then) four of us children felt to be a tyrannical father.
