"Dr. Josephine Dyer, or Jo, is a Microbiology Professor at NCU. While she was in graduate school she made a discovery that in the wrong hands could destroy the entire population of our planet and now someone stole it. When we first meet the professor she has been studying her personally discovered germ and its unique properties for five years. She has made great progress and her research is almost complete when her lab is blown up and her work is stolen.
