Product Description
Four Years Too Long is a collection of short stories about the Civil War. Settings span the growing country and range from the spring of 1861 until the close of the war. In “Goodbye,” a young woman is faced with the departure of a loved one off to war, and in “As I Have Loved You,” Sarah finds the courage to show compassion. “Coffee” centers around a humorous encounter between two pickets of opposing armies and is written through the eyes of a young boy, hardly old enough to be a soldier. “Mine Eyes Have Seen” introduces characters that reappear in “Home,” and the phenomenon of soldier’s heart is explored. “Their Last Full Measure” jumps from present to past and back again; and Confederate deserters return home to joy and sorrow in “1864” and “Jacob’s Ladder.” Finally, the last three stories are based on my own reenacting experiences.
