As children, the lives we lead are heavily influenced by the choices that our parents make. This was definitely the case for me in 1987, when my entire world changed in one day. On March 3, 1987, I was in a country that was alien to me (never mind that I was born in it). The life I had lived and the perceptions that were a part of it were shattered. I was an Air Force brat, one branch of the better-known “Military Brat” phrase, and I would have to learn to live with my new perception.

In 1987, there was no book entitled Now That You Are an Air Force Brat that told me what to expect or how to deal with it. That is what this book is about. This book is about how I learned how to say hi and then good-bye to friends along with many other lessons.
