Born in post-war Japan, John grew up in Kobe, but left to attend the University of British Columbia. Following a brief career as a physiotherapist, he trained as a family physician. He became more interested in the spiritual dimension of patient care and continues to explore the possibilities. With the advent of great technological progress, sometimes the spiritual meaning of life’s setbacks requires the perspective of spiritual values.

John blends spiritual insights from his Roman Catholic background with the Eastern traditions to explore concepts spanning love, forgiveness, sin, prayer, and other themes, culminating in a conviction that aspects of heaven are a continuity of experience originating in our present lives.
