Charlie Fauxe was a normal fourteen-year-old boy until he finds out that his parents were brutally murdered in the study of the luxurious Fauxe Mansion. Mrs. Norris, Charlie’s parent’s lawyer, sends him to live with his father’s brother, Count Frederick Fosco. Upon Charlie’s arrival at Count Fosco’s dark mansion, he finds that the count is an evil man with little neck. On the night of Charlie’s arrival he starts to find strange signs, including a secret passageway that leads to a dark room. While living at Count Fosco’s, Charlie befriends a servant, whose name is Philip. During Charlie’s short stay at the count’s, he discovers a plot of murder and finds out the darkest secret anyone could possibly imagine. In this short book alone are multiple murders, a dark secret, secret passageways, foul food, a vile villain, and the unmasking of a terrible murderer.
