Death lives on a star in the southern part of the Milky Way. His messenger for the Indian world is a woman who exists between human reality and the star where death lives. She can come in three different guises: as a woman, a black hound, or a giant owl. She comes one day to foretell the deaths of three Indians. They laugh at her. From that day forward, she stalks them until they all come together in a field on a hot summer day…where there will be gunfire, swirling dust and screaming horses.
