Briny Mackle, a left-handed baseball pitcher pitching in the Class A New York Penn Professional Baseball League in 1960, has a lifelike dream of pitching in baseball games played in Heaven between the Old Testament players and the New Testament players. The characters in the Bible come alive for Briny and he is inspired on his return to earth to become a better witness for Christ. Pitching back to back no-hitters, he is moved up to Triple A Ball in the American Association in St. Paul, Minneapolis, Minnesota. He makes friends with a man named Hank who later on is kidnapped, and Briny and his teammates join the police and the entire town in the search when they find out Hank was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor by President Eisenhower during the Korean War. The mystery is solved with a heavenly assist.
