Product Description
Vince Ocheri, 35, is a slightly neurotic college professor who has fallen in love with one of his students, 26 year-old Cherese Jenkins. After sharing a wonderful night of dining and a morning of lovemaking, Vince realizes that she is the woman of his dreams. Cherese has fallen in love too, but she is struggling to move forward because of her fear of being termed a “sellout.” Cherese is intelligent, beautiful, and African-American; Vince is whimsical, insecure, and white.

Running parallel to this story is the story of 16 year-old Wilma Sturtevant and widowed sexagenarian Mrs. Eunice McGraw during the 1920s in backwoods Georgia. Wilma, a victim of incest and a father’s wrath, meets Mrs. Eunice on the road to her own freedom. Wilma is black, poor, and a genius; Mrs. Eunice is white widowed, and uneducated. Together, they redefine themselves and give life to their dying hopes. As time and space meet in 2004, the 100 year-old Wilma sporadically intersects with Cherese and begins a friendship which may save Vince and Cherese’s love.
