The scene is set when Francesca Hunter agrees to spy on Damon Thorne at Adamant House. Supporting her are the head of the campus police, the editor of the student paper and her chemistry professor, who suspects that a student is making drugs in her lab. Watching with growing concern is Francesca’s mentor, Roberto Cassini, whose cosmetic company sponsors her research and who has more than a professional interest in her. When Damon’s friend nearly gets killed while trying to synthesize a designer drug, Damon blames it on Francesca’s meddling, kidnaps her and holds her captive on the beach. After she is rescued, he follows her to Venice and to Manhattan, where she thinks guns are the solution to her troubles with him and meets him for the last time.
