Kemira Borda always wanted to be a well-known sorceress like her mother. Not just any sorceress, though—Kemira dreams of becoming the most powerful sorceress in the land. Now that she has turned twelve, she is finally old enough to begin using her magic, and she knows just where to practice. Near her home sits a huge, magical cave that is said to be filled with hidden passageways, secret rooms, and ancient treasures.

Kemira is especially interested in the story of the Ancient Book of Spells, which is rumored to be hidden somewhere within the huge cave. Although in the past many had tried to find the book and failed, Kemira decides to go on an adventure to find the book herself. However, finding the book may be more than Kemira bargained for. An evil sorceress is trapped in the book, waiting for someone like Kemira to release her.
