Seemingly insurmountable problems are faced by 5th grader Twanna and her friend Jaylin. Abandoned by her family, Twanna is adopted by a dog. She needs a place to hide from a sexually abusive cousin. She makes Jaylin promise no adults involved! Street smarts come into play and until the school officials discover something is wrong with this picture, she survives in an underground room filled with antiques. What will become of her, her protective dog, and her friendship with Jaylin?
