Pelayo is a story of intrigue, betrayal, deceit, warfare, love, family, life, death and, finally, of home. This fictional novel traces some of the most important events in the history of Europe, Africa, and the Middle East, centering on the first years of the Muslim conquest of Spain. Pelayo, a young Visigoth of noble descent, loses his ideals, love, and even his own identity as the invading army drives him further from his youthful dreams to Asturias, a northern province of Spain, where he would become the first king and lead a small army of 500 men against forces more than twenty times that size, beginning what would be known as the Reconquest.
