The story begins as Evelyn Henley is sitting with Jesse, her husband of over fifty years, enjoying the beauty of a spring afternoon in Oklahoma. He is suffering from the effects of injuries sustained in the Korean War long ago. As Jesse sleeps, Evelyn remembers a lifetime filled with joys and heartaches, good times and bad. She reminisces about their lives and their family. Evelyn recalls the joy of raising her two children, Lyn and Jessica, and her adopted son David. She recalls David’s agony when he was abandoned and left alone by his biological father, and the love David was shown by his uncle, Jesse. Perhaps Evelyn’s most vivid memories are of her daughter-in-law, who instantly became a celebrity when she gave birth to twin girls Carrie and Sherry.
WHEN LOVE COMES ALONG is a love story, and highlights the Henley family from the time Evelyn, Jesse and Becky were young until Jesse’s death. It is a story about Jesse’s and Evelyn’s love of each other, and of their friends and family members. It tells of Jesse’s strength and Evelyn’s devotion.
