Murder and madness shouldn’t be part of the choreography of a liturgical dance troupe called Spiritus. But the troupe and its spiritual leader, streetwise minister the Reverend Molly Ringer of Faith Congregational Church, find themselves face to face with some of the nastier aspects of life. Spiritus’ members make their home in Crestwood, New Jersey, some 25 miles from New York City. Crestwood is a middle- to upper-class community. Despite its clean, friendly appearance, the lives of Crestwood’s residents are anything but idyllic. The characters in Hard to Dance with the Devil on Your Back try to bring sanity to an insane world. Sometimes they succeed. Sometimes they don’t.
