This book follows the life of the author, after getting polio, at a very young age. It chronicles his struggles and challenges trying to fit into an able-bodied world. It?s not easy growing up in the 1960s and 1970s in north central Wisconsin where very little was being done to help the disabled adjust to life. Finding a job, which paid enough for a disabled person to live on and take care of themselves, proved difficult. Laws were slowly being passed, making the workplace more handicapped accessible, making it possible for the disabled to work and play. They want to contribute their fair share to society and be able to pay their share of taxes. Many disabled people try to do as much as they can on their own, trying to be as independent as possible, something that others take for granted.
