When her mother leaves with another man, Cindy is forced to weigh her options of remaining with an insane, very abusive father or take her chances with the wild animals in the wilderness. She decides the wild animals weren't near as dangerous as the animal at home.

By telling Cindy's tragic story, I hoped to convey the message that no matter how bad the situation never give up. That through hard work, sheer determination, and surrounding oneself with people of good moral character you can pick yourself up and make a good life for yourself no matter where in life you started.

In the writing of Abused, Alone and Forsaken: Mommy, Don't Leave Me, I was in my memories able to revisit the place of my teenage years. The trestle, the waterfall, and stone graveyard are real places.
