A man walking his dog in the early morning discovers Aaron Mason’s dead body sprawled across historic Plymouth Rock. Mason’s mother, an environmental activist, blames the state, in particular Andrew Noonan, highway construction supervisor, with whom she has been battling. However, Noonan is found dead, the result of a bullet through his head. The police chief suspects that Mason’s family knows more than they are letting on but becomes stymied in his investigation when Mason’s parents retain counsel. The chief enlists the aid of Scott Avery, a former investigative reporter, now publisher of the local newspaper. Aaron’s sister Cindy meets with Avery and accuses their domineering father of murdering Aaron in a state of rage. She further implies her subservient mother aided in disposing of her brother’s body. Surprise witnesses come forward to reveal shocking, deep, dark secrets that lead to the ugly truth of who killed Aaron Mason and why.
