The first setting for From the Cypress Grove is Mexico during the late nineteenth century, just prior to the Mexican Revolution. Members of the Mormon congregations, settled in several colonies in the state of Chihuahua, find themselves beset by marauding revolutionists. When the difficulties grow larger than can be handled peaceably, they opt to leave their homes and return to the United States. Challenging, exciting, often threatening adventures follow the beleaguered characters, old and young, through pages that draw the reader into tender love stories, battles, life-and-death struggles, and deep, abiding friendships.
