This is my story of how I learned to overcome great depression and a failure-to-thrive childhood. It traces my life with an Irish alcoholic mother who abandoned me emotionally. I eventually learned to thrive, because I had my animals. They taught me how to love, which in turn gave me the courage to learn and thrive in a patriarchal culture.
